When the accomplished executive is harsh or unkind – what’s happening? Did she progress to this senior level by behaving this way?
Or is it possible that, because of her capability, the executive has chosen to extend herself beyond her emotional capacity?
As we increase our capability by learning and improving skills, I believe many of us forget to also work on increasing our emotional capacity. We eventually start operating beyond our capacity – and work that used to be rewarding becomes frustrating, and the people we care about so much become burdens.
The good news is that emotional capacity is not a fixed value. With a little concerted effort and feedback from an Emotional Intelligence expert, it can be drastically increased.
